The London Eye is a 450-foot-tall Ferris wheel that spins above the Thames. Its parts were floated down the river, assembled on the water, and then hoisted into place, as you can see here.

Le Musée des Arts Forains (Museum of Fairground Art) is in Paris, and has a beautiful display of Carousels and mechanical music makers. Since the last time I checked their site, they added a lot of annoying sound effects so you may want to turn the volume down before you follow the link.
